As the Port of Gulfport has succeeded, so has the over 70,000 residents who call Mississippi’s second-largest city home. A diversified community enjoys 6.7 miles of man-made white sandy beaches along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the recent additions spurred by the gaming industry which began in Gulfport in the 1990s. In response to the fast economic growth, Gulfport annexed 33 square miles north of the city—doubling its previous land size—in preparation for its dynamic future.
The anticipation of what’s to come for Gulfport is based on a solid economic foundation. Gulfport’s downtown area has an established mercantile area, and with the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and the Mississippi State Port Authority located in Gulfport, the city's future looks like a great bet. Established industries anchor Gulfport's traditional economic base and includes the Bernard Bayou Industrial District, the home of industries such as Seemann Composites, Future Pipe and other various shipbuilders. Combined with several military installations, including the Gulfport Seabee Construction Battalion, Specialized Rapid Deployment Force and other key naval contractors, Gulfport is cashing in on established businesses and the influx of new gaming attractions. As the home of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus and Blue-Cliff College-Gulfport, new energy is infused in the city by the institutions' students.
With so much incredible growth, Gulfport maintains the energy of a thriving destination with historic home sites on the beach, terrific golfing opportunities, and of course, a plethora of water sports and fishing adventures. Gulfport's Department of Lesiure Services also contributes to the community by offering residents access to 20 individual community and recreation centers, facilities and pavilions, and 34 distinct parks and water recreation areas. Gulfport is the home of the annual “World's Largest Fishing Rodeo” among other community events.
As the 48th city to join the Mississippi Main Street Program, Gulfport continues to honor its history with an expectation of a bright future. When you consider Gulfport’s terrific school system, friendly neighborhoods and amazing community amenities, it makes perfect sense to call this place your next home.
